• Girls Scouts Teen CEO Program satisfies requirements of Ohio Core Teen CEO is a financial literacy program based on the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) How to Start and Operate a Small Business and the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) High School Financial Planning Program. NFTE’s Entrepreneurs in Profile, a case study book, also serves as one of many resources for Teen CEO. Typically offered in individual sessions totaling 36 hours, this program meets the financial literacy requirements of the Ohio Core. For additional information, contact Stacy L. • The Actuarial Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting personal financial responsibility, has resources available for schools to assist with teaching personal finance essentials. Topics covered include banking fundamentals (savings and checking accounts), financing basics (loans, interest rates and mortgages) and investing (stocks, bonds, mutual funds and risk management). Teacher’s guides and student booklets are available at cost.
• The National Financial Capability Challenge is a non-monetary awards program designed to increase the financial knowledge and capability of high-school aged youth across the United States. It challenges youth to take control of their financial future by learning more about personal finance and it challenges teachers and schools to incorporate the important information and topics into their curricula. To register for this year’s competition go to http://www.challenge.treas.gov/ or visit the Jump Start Coalition. Teachers are encouraged to sign up through March 1.
